TB stands for tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a lung infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. TB can be fatal if not treated properly. TB is most commonly spread through the air, but it can also be spread through contact with infected body fluids (such as saliva or blood) or contaminated objects. Symptoms of TB include coughing, chest pain, and fever. If you think you may have contracted TB, see your doctor immediately. Treatment typically includes antibiotics and rest.
